Health Canada has issued a stern warning after identifying counterfeit respirators. The authority identified that these counterfeit respirators may not be able to provide the proper protection.
The agency said that Shanghai Lansheng Light Industrial Products has been identified selling N95 counterfeit respirators using the name of Shanghai Dasheng Health Products Manufacture Co Ltd. Health Canada further clarified that these respirators are falsely labeled as approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). It further clarified that these respirators may not able to provide the proper protection.
The agency has further taken action and has asked the company to stop selling these products in the market and recall has been asked. The Canadian Border Services Agency is also monitoring the situation to prevent these products from entering the Canadian market.
In the notice, Health Canada has clearly mentioned that the agency is taking all measures to stop import and selling of the counterfeit respirators. The companies that are distributing or importing these respirators have been asked to remove these from the market as well. The authorizations of agencies that are involved in selling and importing the counterfeit products may get canceled if found the products are counterfeit.
The agency has requested the citizens not to use the masks as it may not provide the appropriate protection. Health Canada has asked the Provincial and Territorial governments to review the supply of the respirators to ensure that all the safety measures are met.
