In Levis, South of Quebec City, Two Girls and Their Father, Have Gone Missing After a Crash on Highway 20

On Thursday afternoon, an Amber Alert was issued for two girls in Levis, south of Quebec City. The two girls went missing together with their father after a crash on Highway 20. Norah Carpentier, 11, and Romy Carpentier, 6 are missing, while their father, Martin Carpentier, 44-year-old, is also being pursued. According to Quebec provincial police, the three were last seen in the Saint-Nicholas neighborhood of Levis, near a convenience store on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

They were in a 2008 Volkswagen Passat with the license plate P75 PXV at 9:30 p.m. Reports from police show that they got involved in a crash on Highway 20 east in nearby Saint-Apollinaire and the vehicle was unoccupied when emergency services arrived. Since then, the three have been missing. Their relatives are worried about their health and safety, and on Thursday, the mother posted photos of the girls on Facebook with a plea for help: “We need to find my daughters and their dad.” Even as an SQ helicopter was deployed to search the wooded area, the police are asking anyone who lives in the area to check any building, shed or trailer they might have on or near their property.

Lyne Provencher, a woman, driving in the area witnessing the crash, said she saw a car headed toward Quebec City fly off the road, hit a sign and some trees, and then flip over. She stopped the roadside and ran to see if there were people inside but found nobody. Lyne added that three people called authorities at the same time, and only Martin’s cell phone was in the car. Provencher indicated that his stepfather called saying he was waiting for Martin to arrive, and that he had said he was going for ice cream with his daughters.

Since the children did not appear to have been in the car, Provencher said authorities then contacted the girls’ mother to inform her and ask if she had her daughters with her. Noting there were child seats in the car, Provencher hoped the person was safe. Surete du Quebec spokesperson Stephane Tremblay said that it was possible that one or all of the three missing people are injured. The Amber Alert was launched on Thursday afternoon after the subsequent police investigation. Police spokesperson Anik Lamirande said that at the moment, this is a kidnapping.

Martin Carpentier is 5’10” and 130 lbs. At the time of the incident, he wore a grey t-shirt and jeans, maybe glasses. Romy is three feet tall and weighs 43 pounds. That day she wore a pink shirt, heart-shaped earrings, and red nail polish. Norah is 5’2″ and thin. She was last seen wearing a white cap and white Nike sandals.

Call 911 immediately if you spot them anywhere.
