When the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, many nations, including Canada, enforced lockdown measures to curb the spread of the virus. However, the United States government has not enforced such measures, yet the country has registered almost 3.9 million COVID-19 cases. People have used images on the social media of the pair of tour boats at Niagara Falls iconic Canada as a symbol of the comparison of the country’s response to coronavirus to the United States.
Many people believe the U.S government has failed, and they compare these pandemic failures to the two crossing boats -the American vessel carrying hundreds of guests with the Canadian watercraft, which holds just half a dozen. Whereas the Maid of the Mist is operating with 200 guests, or half its capacity the Hornblower, which can usually hold about 700 guests, has been restricted to just six passengers since the start of July.
Niagara will move into the next stage of reopening on Friday. This phase will allow up to 100 passengers per voyage on the Canadian side. Hornblower operator MoryDiMaurizio, vice president and general manager at Hornblower Niagara Cruises, feels that the Ontario restrictions have gone too far, and the business is losing money. Nonetheless, he said that they supported the province for keeping them safe.
