Numerous online gaming brands in the UK are out for the same customers. They appear regularly as team sponsors and on TV shows, among other events. In fact, they may be the only advertisers around during the pandemic.
There is more than enough bingo, betting, and poker brands to go around. Yet they seem to be controlled by six major companies, with their own brands actively competing against one another.
One of the top tier is GVC Holdings, headquartered in the Isle of Man. Going back to 2004, it is one of the largest UK gambling entities. GVC owns high street sport betting brands Ladbrokes and Coral, in addition well-known bingo brands Gala Bingo and Foxy Bingo. Online casino brands PartyCasino and PartyPoker fall under its umbrella.
In the group is Flutter, based in Ireland. It operates the Paddy Power and Betfair sports betting brands. No, they are not exactly rivals. Flutter also owns the US-focused fantasy sports brand FanDuel along with TVG, the popular horse-betting platform.
Next in the lineup is the internet-focused 888, founded in 1997. Many years later it has a top spot due to clever digital advertising. Many of its brands use the same numerals: 888casino, 888sport, 888poker, and 888bingo. Less obvious brands such as Wink Bingo and Wink Slots are also part of the group.
The Stars Group, founded in 2001 in Canada, is also a major UK player. It is known for the highly regarded PokerStars and BetStars brands. It also runs Sky Betting & Gaming acquired in 2018. It boasts of an agreement with Sky television which has made SkyBet, SkyVegas, SkyBingo, and SkyPoker household names.
The UK is home for the Rank Group. It goes back to 1937, making it the oldest company in this pantheon. That is even before the internet! The group operates Grosvenor Casinos, Mecca Bingo, Regal Wins, and Aspers Casino.
No list in the UK is complete without the Kindred Group from 1997. It is based in Malta and runs the 32Red casino brand, the Unibet sports betting firm, and the Bingo.com website. Scandinavia is a hotbed for its operations but it is also quite popular around the world.
While there are these six greats, there has been a lot of consolidation through acquisitions over the last few decades. No wonder they are expanding so rapidly. The industry has come to trust their reliability and security, making it difficult for newbies to enter the fold.
