It has been a long year for Huawei, one of China’s most popular smartphone company. First was the trade ban which exempted the company from getting services (like android) from reputable tech companies in the USA.
Huawei was also not allowed to sell its smartphones as well as its 5G network to Americans who were one of its major client bases. This forced the company to shut down up to 200 branches in the country.
However many of the obstacles, Huawei soldiered on and continued with developing its 5G network which was the source of the trade rivalry. While USA has exempted the company from exporting its 5G network, companies such as Nokia are keen to monopolize it.
The Chinese tech giant has not stopped at anything and is, in fact, working on a new tablet. According to some leaked renders that were posted by 91 Mobiles, the tablet has a striking resemblance to Apple’s iPad Pro.
However, the tablet features a dual-lens camera at the back and a front-facing camera. In contrast the iPad Pro has a single lens back camera that could maybe be upgraded in future according to some reviewers.
Apart from Huawei’s new tablet, Xiaomi’s latest smartwatch is another Chinese gadget that has drawn inspiration from Apple.
According to Evan Blass, one of the most trusted leakers, the tablet may even carry the “Pro” nomenclature which further makes it obvious where Huawei drew its inspiration. If that’s the case, Blass asserts that the new tablet will be named “Huawei MatePad Pro”.
As per the leaked renders, the tablet seems to feature a magnetic keyboard case. This is similar to the Smart Keyboard Folio. What is not known so far is if the case will be included in the packaging box when buying the tablet.
Another feature that the new tablet comes with is a stylus. This is similar to iPad Pro’s pencil. The stylus seems to be attachable to the tabletop as it has a ridged surface that would supposedly attach it to the tablet.
Just like the iPad Pro, Huawei’s next tablet will not feature a fingerprint sensor as per the report by 91 Mobiles. In its place, the company may consider going to face authentication like Apple’s 2018 models.
Huawei’s new tablet may perhaps have an in-display sensor that we can’t tell by simply looking at the renders. For this, we’ll have to wait for the actual device to be rolled out.
So for now, all we can say is that we don’t see the fingerprint sensor at the back of the rendered image to stay accurate.
As for its internal features, 91 Mobiles points out that we could expect the tablet to feature Kirin 990 SOC which is Huawei’s latest and fastest processor. If this will be the case, we should expect a built-in 5G modem.
Other features that are expected include; up to 8GB RAM, 256 GB internal storage and a large battery of more than 7500mAh if we consider it to be an upgrade of the MediaPad M6 which was launched in June this year.
